In a May 10 posting on Rudder Cable Systems JJ had a great list of things to check on during annual inspections. Item #1 dealt with the nylon sleeve in the "S" tube that prevents metal-to-metal contact. While working on my DISCUS B yesterday I noticed that the nylon sleeves on both "S" tubes had migrated aft -- out of the top of the "S" tube, resulting in metal-to-metal contact at the lower end of the "S" tube. Tried to shove them back in but to no avail. Is there a magic way to correct this situation?

Want to fix this before flying again.

Hi Mike,
You might try giving the 'S' tube some heat with a heat gun. That might
make the nylon tube more pliable. Otherwise you will need to remove the
rudder cable in order to replace the sleeve.

You may need to disconnect one end of the rudder cables to remove
tension in the "S" to allow the tube to be pushed back into position.
It would be a good time to thoroughly inspect the cable for wear or
frayed cable end sticking out that may have slowly pushed the tube out
of position.

Mike,
You need a way to get some pressure on the nylon tube and force it back
into the 'S' tube. You might try clamping two little wood blocks on the
cable where it exits the nylon tube (held in place with a 'C' clamp), then
heat up ehe 'S' tube with a heat gun and then pull back on the rudder pedal
adjustment. The wood blocks won't let the rudder pedals move, but will
place pressure on the nylon tube, forcing it back where it belongs
(hopefully)............... give it a try, it's better than replacing the
rudder cables in order to get the tube back where it belongs!
